Summer Holidays

So we are knee deep into the summer holidays. We are approaching week three and I thought I would do a little blog about summer, the pressures of summer and some of the things that we're doing to take the pressure off.

First off, be kind to yourself you are doing the best you can. Summer isnt all perfect Instagram squares, or that everyone goes on holiday and spends a fortune entertaining kids.

For us this year, we're not even going away for a staycation we're just doing a few days out with the kids. I've planned that two days a week we go for days out, can be paid days out free days out for a picnic at the park. Anything just two days a week. The rest of the week are things like playing at home in the garden or baking and this really helped to take the pressure off having a perfect 24/7 non-stop summer.

Here's an example of one of our previous weeks:

Day 1 - the zoo

Day 2 - sunflower patch

Day 3 - home - chore day - painted sunflowers

Day 4 - Bletchley park (annual pass)

Day 5 - home - baking and colouring

Day 6 - home - movie day

Day 7 - walk to shops and coffee with friends.

This might be surprising, but this is one of the more full on weeks where we did a little bit more than usual, but it doesn't seem like a lot does it?

I believe that children still need a bit of structure and stability to their day to day during summer or half terms with a few nice days out included. As much as you crave to be at home having a relaxing day, children need that too, they need to use their imagination they need to have their creative outlet. They need to chill.

this is my reminder to parents to take the pressure off of yourselves during summer, children do not need to be entertained 24 hours a day seven days a week. The most Important part is making memories and usually those memories come out of sporadic moments. What do you remember from your childhood vacations? I remember baking with my Nanna, picking potatoes is my Grandad and have a picnics with my mum. Small little things I will stay with us because it's a time that we have together.

I have created a colour in as you go summer bucket list, I'll attach it here as an image. If you'd like it emailing over drop me a message on here or Instagram and I'll do that for you.

Be kind to yourself, you've given them the best summer!

We'd love to hear from you please comment below your favourite childhood summer memory, as always if you've enjoyed reading like share and give us a follow.
