I thought I’d share with you our easy peasy salt dough recipe!
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
1 cup of water
Combine all the ingredients together until you get a dough. If it’s too sticky add a bit more flour, if it’s too dry add a little bit more water.
on a floured worktop roll out your dough, use cookie cutters to make your shapes or you can press hands to make prints.
Make sure you add a whole before baking this is for when you need to string up your decoration.
We use fondant icing letters stamps to make names and dates on our salt dough ornaments.
Once you’ve made your decorations up onto a lined baking tray into a preheated oven at 150 and bake for 2-2:40 hours. They should turn a golden colour when thoroughly dried out and if you tap the bottom they should sound hollow.
Leave to cool, we left ours overnight. Once cooled you can paint. We found acrylic works best. You can also add details using a marker pen or glitter, Once finished we recommend to seal using PVA glue or modge podge. You need to seal both sides leaving to dry overnight each side.
Final step is to attach string, ribbon or twine to ornament ready for hanging.
We hope you have lots of fun don’t forget to share if you make your own and tag us so we can see your beautiful decorations!
