Half Term - Autumn/Halloween

have you got that half term blank!? You don’t know what to do with the kids? Then continue reading for some quick and easy ideas are not going to hurt your pocket.

I’m going to share 5 very simple days out or activities to do at home for the autumn half term holiday.

  1. Take them to the park with a picnic!

We love going to the park and you can easily spend hours (weather permitting) there! Take some seeds to feed to ducks! Pack a hot drink or two and a lunch to share together!

we love spending time at our local parks so I’m very familiar with what facilities are nearby like toilets or shelter for picnic.  So do check that out for that in your local parks, so that you can estimate how long you can spend there.

It’s a brilliant place for children to burn off energy, explore and perfect for risky play too!

2. Visit a local pumpkin patch!

What could be more fun than spending time outside exploring a pumpkin patch during the Halloween autumn half term! It’s a brilliant place to explore I absolutely love going to the pumpkin patch myself so I can only imagine how magical it is for children.

We visit the same patch every year which is MK patch and every year it’s always different there’s a different attraction to look at, there’s lots to eat, lots to play on and lots to see! It’s very reasonably priced you could just go for the day which is brilliant for photo opportunities. Take a hot drink with you and a picnic or you could support a local farm and pick a pumpkin enjoy a hot drink and have a cake or a sausage roll.

3. Pumpkin decorating!

The obvious activity for autumn Halloween half term is to decorate your pumpkins! Now I said decorate instead of carve because there are lots of ways that you can decorate a pumpkin so that children can be involved and it doesn’t involve a sharp knife!

A) paint drip - you literally squeeze the paint over the top of the pumpkin let it drip down. You can use three or four different colours and it creates a really beautiful marble effect.

B) wax melt - using a glue gun glue a few wax crayons to the top of the pumpkin, use a hairdryer to melt the wax and it will drip down the pumpkin and dry.

C) sticker - use stickers to create a spooky face.

D) paint - paint a spooky face or Halloween scene on the pumpkin.

E) carve - or you can carve your pumpkin I would recommend for older children or for adults only definitely adult supervision! When we carve we let the children scoop the innards out and pick a design.

4. Bake!

All of her favourite activities to do is bake, what a better time to do it in June half term holidays you can create some festive treats, like, pumpkin cookies, Ghost meringue, Monster cupcakes, Mummy sausage rolls, Frankenstein cake, skeleton gingerbread men, the list could go on!

baking is a brilliant activity to do with children, it’s great for bonding,  it’s using maths without knowing, it it’s using science without knowing, it it’s a brilliant skill to teach and do together. When it’s all done you can have a nice spooky afternoon tea!

5. Have a Halloween party!

finally how about having a Halloween party! Not just a party for a couple of hours, but a party where the children help decorate the house, help pick out an outfit and help get snacks ready.

You could spend a few hours creating some spooky bunting and decorations to put up at the window or around the house, find some spooky music to play through Spotify or Alexa or something.

Invite some friends over, Play games, decorate some biscuits, dance, eat some spooky snacks and have fun.

Have a fabulous half term if you liked reading this as a comment like and share. Would love to hear what you’ve got planned for the half term too.
