The little adventurer has had lots of indoor activities this week, one of the best ones was our scientific experiment day.
The little adventurer had hours of fun playing with this sensory dinosaur ice skating rink, melting the frozen water using a dropper and glass containing warm water. It eventually turned to slush which was brilliant for splashing fun, little hands did get cold but a warm flannel was on standby to make them toasty again.
This simple sensory tray was created by freezing water that had green food colouring and green glitter, then using an ice cube tray filled with water, popped miniature dinosaurs in them and frozen all items overnight.
Then we made our own salt crystal using boiling water and lots and lots of salt mixed together. The water was then poured into a clean glass jar with a piece of string dangled inside. it’s fascinating to watch it growing, which it’s still doing now. We are very excited to see how it turns out.
Then as there was a lot of salt left over we decided to make a fresh batch of salt dough. The little adventurer loved rolling and making creations in the dough! Once the dough had baked for 3 hours and left to cool we then had fun painting them all bright colours and the adventurer in training sealed the painted dough to keep them safe and protected!
This was a very busy day indeed, we have been thoroughly entertained and engrossed in our scientific experiments, learning about frozen water and what impact warm water has on frozen water, how salt dissolves in hot water and watching a salt specimen grow is amazing. Nothing goes to waste here either as the salt dough kept us busy for hours and a few days after too. learning through play is the best way to learn!
Happy adventures
