Living life in colour!
What a brilliant week the little adventurer has had exploring colour!! He has climbed up and down the rainbow, it’s been a beautiful ride!
The little adventurer has a real love for the rainbow song which you can find on a BING episode. I warn you, it will be stuck in your head until the end of time!!
Each day the little adventurer has had a flisat (Ikea) table set up of the chosen colour of that day. There is always a nice sensory feel to each set up so that the little adventurer can explore the senses through his play.
Each day has different textures, loose parts and toys to explore the colour through. Loose parts is a huge part of the little adventure’s play as he likes to play with things he can touch and feel but not be so repetitive. This is why each day is slightly different, this was a ploy to keep an under 2 year old engaged in structured play and a week long theme, something we’ve not done before.
It’s been a successful week, the little adventurer has increased his vocabulary significantly through his play.
Colour week has been a great activity for cognitive development and all areas of P.I.E.S
The little adventurer has had a huge leap in his interests and keeping his little mind engrossed in one activity, which was accomplished with play prompts.
His favourite play prompts was our hunt and find game, this is where the adventurer in training would ask questions such as;
can you find me a red ball? Where is the blue tree? How many pink buttons are there? Can you see a yellow rectangle? Can you find a green Acton? What does the purple feather feel like? What noise does the orange water make when you hit it?
The list is endless and you can do so much with the hunt and find game, which we use to explore the senses as much as possible.
The little adventurer really enjoyed this week of play, the most played with tray must have been the rainbow tray.
We shall leave you with a little song 🌈
Pretty purple, indigo, blue and green and bright yellow, that’s the way the colours go, climbing up the rainy bow! Sunset orange, ruby red, rainy bow above your head, that’s the way the colours go, sliding down the rainbow! The rainbow song - bing
